HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 29 (acn) Cuba achieved its first win in the NORCECA women's volleyball continental championship after beating Costa Rica at the Bicentennial Auditorium in Morelia, Mexico, where they will face USA today.
After losing on Sunday 2-3 (25-22, 18-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12) to Canada in Group A, on Monday Cuba beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25- 14, 25-15 and 25-21), according to the website of the contest.
The top scorer of the match was Cuban Heidy Rodriguez with 22 points, while Michal Hines highlighted with 11 points for losers.
In Pool A yesterday's other match, United States defeated 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-19) Canada.
With only one day to close the preliminary round, the Americans lead the group with two wins without losses, followed by Cubans and Canadians (1-1) and Costa Rica (0-2 ), which lost 0-3 in its debut against the United States.
