HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 24 (acn) With the hope of earning points to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics, two Cuban fencers should participate in early December at the Grand Prix of Doha, Qatar.
Alhjadis Bandera, national commissioner of fencing, told ACN that Yamirka Rodríguez and Reinier Henríquez, athletes that so far have greater possibilities for Cuba to access to the summer event, will try to get their individual tickets.
He added that both Rodriguez and Henriquez will also be present in the tournaments organized by Italy, for women, and Switzerland, for men, both to be held from November 23 to 25.
The executive assured that such events are very important to earn points in the world ranking in order to have more chances to the Olympic qualification.
So far, Cuba has 20 berths for Rio de Janeiro, including seven in shooting, five boxers, three rowers, two wrestlers, equal amount in modern pentathlon and one in canoeing.
