HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 18 (acn) Marcia Videaux became the only Cuban representative of the four participants who will compete tomorrow in the first day of finals in the World Gymnastics Cup of Osijek, Croatia, as she won the vault and finished third in the uneven bars events.
Videaux, monarch a few months ago of the vault in the Pan American Games in Toronto, topped the list of eight athletes qualified in this event by scoring 14,925 units, according to the official website of the competition.
The promising Cuban gymnast also finished third in uneven bars (13,250), surpassed only by British Ruby Harrold ( 14,200) and Finnish Annika Urvikko (13,500).
Thus, the young girl will compete in the finals on Saturday, with great potential to climb the awards podium to repeat her performance at the World Cup in Anadia, Portugal, last May, where she won the vault event and was bronze medalist in uneven bars.
Her teammate Manrique Larduet, one of the leading candidates for Cuba to medals in this contest, was well below expectations by being relegated in the events of floor (29th/ 13,050), pommel horse (18th/ 13,700) and parallel bars (14th/ 13,800).
Meanwhile, Randy Leru finished 40th in floor ( 12,100), 35th in pommel horse (9.550) and 10th in parallel bars (14,250), while the also Cuban Dovelis Torres was eleventh in the women's vault (13.300).
