Cuban freestyle wrestlers finish without medals in Las Vegas

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 15 (acn) Cuban freestyle athletes finished their performance with no medals at the World Wrestling Championship, which ended in Las Vegas, United States.

At the closing day of the strong contest, Livan Lopez and Yowlys Bonne were below expectations by failing to be included among medalists in their respective divisions.
Lopez, 74 kilograms and London 2012 bronze medalist and twice medalist in world tournaments, had a good debut by beating 16-6 Kazakh Zhiger Zakirov and then defeated 6-0 Armenian Grigor Grigoryan.
However, in the quarterfinals he lost 5-16 against Indian Narsingh Pancham and could not advance to the playoffs, as reflected in the web site of the International Wrestling Federation.
Meanwhile, Bonne (57), bronze medalist in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, last year, easily won 10-0 his first bout against Samat Nadyrbek, from Kyrgyzstan, but in his next fight he was beaten by the double world champion Russian Victor Lebedev.
With those performances, Cuba left without medals in the freestyle modality, in which it presented five competitors of recognized quality, but this time the results did not come.
In the overall balance, the Caribbean island had a harvest of two medals, with the title won by Ismael Borrero (59 kg), and the silver metal of Mijain Lopez (130), both in the Greco-Roman style.
In addition, those two wrestlers met their purpose of qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics, because this universal contest granted five tickets in each division to the event on Brazilian soil.
