Ciego de Avila extends winning streak to 9 in Cuban baseballHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 14 (acn) Ciego de Avila achieved its third swept in a row by winning 5-1 over Las Tunas, to be ratified as the undisputed leader of the Cuban baseball championship in its 55th edition.

DH Yorelvis Charles went 2 for 4 with two RBIs as the most outstanding offensive player for the Ciego de Avila Tigers, while the starting pitcher Denis Castillo won the match when allowing 10 hits and one earned run in five innings.
With nine consecutive wins, the current national monarchs lead without troubles the standings with record of 11 wins and only two losses, escorted by Industriales , which defeated 8-2 Guantanamo.
Ian Rendon starred solid pitching performance for Industriales by allowing only two hits in six innings, supported from the batter's box by shortstop Jorge Aloma and first baseman Alexander Malleta, with two RBIs per capita.
Meanwhile, Artemisa, Matanzas, Cienfuegos and Sancti Spiritus also completed sweeps in their respective weekend series.
Artemisa beat 7-6 Camagüey, with three RBIs by outfielder Yohandry Urgellés, while Matanzas´ catcher Onel Vega hit a homer in the triumph of Matanzas over Mayabeque 6-5.
In addition, Sancti Spiritus beat 7-4 Isla de la Juventud, with two RBIs per capita to the account of Daviel Domez and Dunieski Barroso for the cause of the winners, while Cienfuegos defeated 3-2 Villa Clara, with the second win of the season for the lefty Leorisbel Sanchez.
In the other matches of the day, Granma won 9-4 over Santiago de Cuba and Pinar del Rio knocked out Holguin 12-2.
Ciego de Avila (11-2) leads the National Baseball Series, followed by Industriales (9-3), Granma, Pinar del Rio, Sancti Spiritus (8-4), Cienfuegos (7-5), Matanzas, Santiago de Cuba (6-6), Artemisa, Holgui, Villa Clara, Guantanamo and Las Tunas (5-7), Isla de la Juventud (5-8), Mayabeque (3-9) and Camaguey (1-11).
