Cuban swimmer in qualifier at World ChampionshipsHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 4 (acn) Cuban Elisbet Gamez will have today her second appearance in the Water Sports World Championship, based in the Russian city of Kazan, in the preliminary round of the women's 200m backstroke.

Gamez appears in the number three qualifying heat, with a registration time of 2: 01.85 minutes, record with which she reached the finals in the recently concluded 17th Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, according to the official website of the event.

This time, she will hardly be included among the 16 semifinalists of the world contest, since more than 30 competitors exhibit times under two minutes, but her main objective will be lowering her personal best (2: 01.84).

The young freestyler debuted on Sunday at the distance of 400 m, a modality in which she ranked 36th among the 49 participants by stopping the clocks in 4: 21.36 minutes, lower than the 4: 18.23 recorded in the B final of the North American city.

Elisbet will finish her participation in the 100 metres on Thursday, an event in which she is registered with a time of 56.84 seconds, also achieved in the B final of Toronto.

On Monday, her teammate Armando Barrera was disqualified in the preliminary phase of the 100m backstroke, and he will complete his performance in two days in the 200 m event.

In addition to Gamez and Barrera, the Cuban team is also made up by the young swimmer Luis Vega, who will compete in the combined events of 200 and 400 metres.
