HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 3 (acn) Made up by 96 people, the Cuban delegation to the 5th Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games will depart today from Jose Marti International Airport.
Cuba will attend this sporting event, to be held from August 7 to 15 on Canadian soil, with several athletes recognized worldwide, including the sprinter Yunidis Castillo, multiple Paralympics champion in athletics.
The Caribbean island will be represented by athletes in eight disciplines, and they will compete for 71 medals of the 393 sets of medals in contention.
For that reason, maintaining the fourth seat achieved in Guadalajara 2011 shall mean a high degree of efficiency, coupled with the premise of competing with honor and give maximum effort in each specialty.
Lorenzo Perez, London 2012 Paralympics silver medallist handicapped swimmer, and owner of three titles in the continental contest four years ago, recently said on behalf of his 56 colleagues that they will go to Toronto to put up again the sport and fairness of Cuban society.
Other athletes with great options to reach titles are the discus thrower Leonardo Diaz, judokas Jorge Hierrezuelo and Dalidaivis Rodríguez, the sprinter Omara Durand and jumper Luis Felipe Gutierrez, gold medalists in previous Paralympics.
For Cuba, the performance of these athletes will be essential in order to meet their competitive goals, always under the principles of fair play.
