HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 28 (acn) Jose Ramon Fernandez, president of the Cuban Olympic Committee (COC), welcomed on Monday the last batch of athletes from the island, participants in the 17th Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.
In a ceremony at Jose Marti International Airport, in Havana, Fernandez transmitted to the athletes the gratitude of the Cuban people for the successes achieved in the great continental contest of the Canadian city.
We welcome you as what you are, patriots who, despite the often unequal struggle, managed to succeed during these two weeks in Toronto, said the Cuban sports official, who also highlighted the sometimes difficult conditions faced by competitors of the Caribbean nation.
Meanwhile, heptathlon athlete Yorgelis Rodriguez thanked the people on behalf of her colleagues by their support from the distance to the performance of Cuban athletes in the Canadian city.
At the event, the members of the latter group, which included executives of the delegation, received the Seal of Dignity.
Cuba closed its performance in Toronto in fourth place by countries, behind the United States (102-78-81), Canada (77-68-69) and Brazil (41-39-60), respectively.
