Five Cuban Boxers in the Finals in Toronto

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 25 (acn) With great possibilities of wining the title, Cuba was scheduled to be present on Friday in the first five finals of the boxing tournament of the 17th Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.

Joahnys Argilagos, in the 49 kilogram division, Andy Cruz (56), Yasnier Toledo (64), Arlen Lopez (75) and Erislandy Savon (91) were the Cuban representatives in Friday's finals.
Argilagos vs. Mexican Joselito Velazquez, Cruz against Dominican Hector Garcia, Toledo with local Arthur Biyarslanova as his rival, while Lopez and Savon would fight against Colombians Jorge Luis Viva and Deivis Julio Blanco, respectively.
In karate, Cuban Maikel Noriega (67 kilos) made his debut against Argentine Julian Pinzas, to then face local Leirick Chung and finish his presentation in group 2 versus Chilean Israel Santana.
Also, in table tennis, Andy Pereira, Jorge Moises Campos and Livan Martinez will continue their clashes in the groups' stage, trying to advance to the knockout round.
Meanwhile, in athletics, the highlight of the island will be the presence of Pedro Pablo Pichardo, in the men's triple jump finals.
There will also be competitions for medals in women's discus throwing, men's 110 meter hurdles, men's javelin, 200 meters for both sexes, men's 1,500 meters, women's 3,000 meters steeplechase and women's long jump.
Likewise, fencing will include Cuban participation in the team epee event for both sexes, while in team sports, the men's volleyball squad will fight for the fifth position against the United States, and the women's handball team will do the same versus Puerto Rico.
Finally, in field hockey, the Cuban women's team will clash with the Dominican Republic for the seventh seat of that tournament.
