HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 22 (acn) The Cuban women's basketball team won the bronze medal by beating 66-62 Brazil, in the event of this sport of the 17 th Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.
With a strong pressing defense, intensified in the fourth quarter and an acceptable average of 40 percent in field shots, Cuba achieved a hard-fought win.
Again, the guard Ineidis Casanova was decisive with her actions in the match, where she was the top scorer with 18 points, besides contributing with four assists, and she was also supported by the power-forward Clenia Noblet, who in addition to score 16 points, had a great performance under the boards by grabbing 14 rebounds.
The forward leidis Oquendo also highlighted for the Cuban squad with 12 points and 5 rebounds; thus the Caribbean island reissued the win against the Brazilians in the final of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship.
With this result, Cuba won its fourth bronze medal in Pan American Games, record which also includes three titles and two runner-up positions, for a total of nine medals.
