HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 9 (acn) Cuba beat 4-1 Canada in the Baseball Festival of the Americas, in match held at the US city of Cary, North Carolina.
According to the digital publication Jit, the game only lasted seven innings and featured several designated hitters, by agreement of both coaches.
The winner was the Cuban starter Yosvani Torres who allowed only three hits and one earned run in six innings, with four strikeouts, while Yunier Cano took the save.
According to Jit, Cuba's most outstanding hitters were second baseman Yorbis Borroto and catcher Yulexis La Rosa, both with two hits.
In the other match of the tournament, the US team that will attend the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, defeated 6-1 the American university squad.
The Cuban baseball team will travel today to the Canadian city to participate in that event with the aim to regain the title lost in the Mexican edition of Guadalajara 2011.
