HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 8 (acn) Cuba lost 4-0 to the United States in the second day of the Americas Baseball Festival, tournament used as training for both teams towards the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.
The US starter Jake Thompson was the winner by allowing only one hit in three innings, supported by solid reliefs of Casey Coleman, Brian Ellintong, Buddy Baumann and the closer Paul Sewald, while the Cuban starter, Freddy Asiel Alvarez took the loss.
Cuba's line up was made up by Roel Santos (LF), Yorbis Borroto (2B), Frederich Cepeda (DH), Alexander Malleta (1B), Urmani Guerra (RF), Yosvani Alarcón (C), Rudy Reyes (3B), José Adolis García (CF) and Yordan Manduley (SS).
The Cuban squad will face this Wednesday morning Canada on the last day of this tourney, based in Cary, North Carolina.
In the baseball event of the 2015 Pan American Games, agreed to the modernized Ajax President's Choice Pan American Baseball and Softball Center, Cuba will debut on July 11 against Colombia.
Then it will face in successive order to the squads of the US, Puerto Rico and the host defending champion, to close the qualifiers against the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, in search of one of the four tickets to the semifinals.
