HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 30 (acn) The Cuban men´s and women´s pairs won gold and silver medals, respectively, in the second phase of the North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) Beach Volleyball Circuit, which ended in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic.
Jit sports publication notes that the duo Karell Peña-Daisel Sanchez defeated 2-0 (21-16 and 21-18) in the final to Canadians Garrett May and Daniel Dearing.
Meanwhile, the young duet of Yanileydis Sanchez-Lidianny Echevarría lost 1-2 (21-17, 16-21 and 11-16) to American champions Traci Wearner and Kendra Vanzwieten.
It's a great feeling and very important to win after almost two years. I feel comfortable playing with my new partner. He's a good player who represents the future of Beach Volleyball in Cuba. I do not think about retirement, on the contrary, thus I help him to develop, said Peña.
These results make the Cuban technical staff so happy because they were achieved with the second pairs, since the main ones, composed of Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez and Lianma Flores and Leila Martinez, are participating in the World Championship, based in various cities in the Netherlands.
Diaz and Gonzalez already reached their first victory in that contest, 2-1 (20-22, 21-13, 15-12) against the Poles Michal Kadziola and Jakub Szalankiewicz.
