HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 29 (acn) Cuba said goodbye to the World Volleyball League losing to hosts Bulgaria in a Group C match of the second level of the event, based in the city of Varna.
According to the website of the tournament, the disciples of Rodolfo Sanchez lost 1-3 (19-25, 19-25, 25-19, and 17-25) and the top scorer of the match was the European Stanilav Petrov, who scored 16 points, supported by Nikolay Penchev (14), while Mario Luis Rivero (13) and captain Rolando Cepeda (8), the latter again well lower than expected, were Cuba's best players.
Thus, Cuba finished last in Group C with seven points, three wins and nine losses.
Cubans tied with Argentina, with two wins and two defeats, and lost to the Canadians (1-3) and Bulgarians (0-4).
When there is only one series left, between Bulgaria and Argentina, Canada is the leader of this poole by totaling 23 points with 6 wins and equal number of losses, followed by Bulgaria (18-6-4), Argentina (18-6-4) and Cuba (7-3-9).
