HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 29 (acn) Cuba will try to reach its tickets to the finals of the second stage of the men´s and women´s North, Central American and Caribbean Beach Volleyball circuit when facing the United States and Canada, respectively, in Punta Gorda, the Dominican Republic.
The Cuban men´s duo, made up by Karell Peña and Daisel Quesada, leaders of Group A, will play the semifinals against Americans Mark Burik and Curt Toppel, who topped poole D.
Meanwhile, the women´s pair, Yanileydis Sanchez and Lidianny Echevarria, who finished second in group D, will face Canadians Claudia Seguin and Alexandra Poletto, leaders of Poole B.
Peña and Quesada, with three consecutive wins in the first round, qualified to this important phase after beating 2-0 (21-10 and 21-10) in the quarterfinals Puerto Ricans Sergio Figueroa and Daniel Rivera.
Meanwhile, Sanchez and Echeverria defeated 2-1 (21-17, 19-21 and 19-17) the second pair of Canada, made up by Julie Gordon and Brandie Wilkerson.
