Cuban Dominguez climbs to top in Capablanca chess tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 17 (acn) Leinier Dominguez´s win and Lazaro Bruzon´s loss left contrasting news for Cuban fans during the second round of the Capablanca Memorial Chess Tournament, staged at Habana Libre hotel.
Leinier (2746 Elo points) reached 1.5 units by defeating Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi (2718) in 50 moves of a Reti opening despite playing with black pieces and increased expectations of his followers.
The tournament is still very young, but I feel in good shape and with possibilities of victory, he said at the end of a game in which he took advantage of his rival’s inaccuracies.
Meanwhile, Bruzon (2677) lost to Russian Dmitry Andreikin (2718) after 43 moves of a Ragozin defense.
The other match of the Elite group ended in a draw between Chinese Yu Yangyi (2715) and Ukrainian Pavel Eljanov (2718) in 32 moves of a Spanish opening.
Yangyi, Eljanov and Leinier now appear on top of the standings with 1.5 points, followed by Andreikin (1), Bruzon (0.5) and Nepomniachtchi (0).
In the Premier group, the local Yusnel Bacallao (2530) and Polish Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2610) won for the second consecutive day, this time over the also Cuban Ermes Espinosa (2504) and Peruvian Emilio Córdova (2609), respectively.
Their closest pursuers are the current Cuban champion Isam Ortiz (2572), Poland's Kamil Miton (2604) and German Vitaly Kunin (2579), who now own 1.5 units.
