HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 16 (acn) Cuba's women's team lost to the Dominican Republic in a match corresponding to group B, in the third day of the Pan American Volleyball Cup, based in Lima, Peru, where today they will face Uruguay.
After defeating 3-0 and 3-2 Peru and Brazil, respectively, Cuba was beaten 1-3 (27-25, 14-25, 22-15 and 21-25), in one hour and 43 minutes.
However, Melissa Vargas was the top scorer of the match with 19 points, supported by her teammates Alena Rojas (14), Sulian Matienzo (11) and Jennifer Alvarez (11).
Yonkaira Pena (14), Lisvel Eve (13), Cindy Rondon (12) and Marianne Fersola (11) highlighted for the Dominicans.
In the remaining matches of group B, Brazil and Canada beat 3-0 Uruguay and Peru , respectively, with a stage at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum.
In poole A United States, Argentina and Puerto Rico defeated 3-0, 3-2 and 3-0 Costa Rica, Colombia and Mexico, in that order, at Admiral Miguel Grau Coliseum.
So far, the undefeated Dominican Republic and Canada topped Group B with three wins without losses, followed by Cuba (2-1), Brazil (1-2), Peru (0-3) and Uruguay (0-3).
United States (3-0) and Argentina (3-0) lead Poole A, ahead of Puerto Rico (2-1), Colombia (1-2), Mexico (0-3) and Costa Rica (0-3), according to the website of the contest, qualifying for the Grand Prix of 2016.
