HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 6 (acn) The Cuban women's team will face Puerto Rico today in the first day of the North, Central America and Caribbean (NORCECA) Volleyball Champions Cup, staged at the Sports City Coliseum, in Havana.
According to the program approved on Thursday at the technical meeting of the event, the Cubans will then face Canada on Saturday and the Dominican Republic on Sunday.
The tournament brings together the top four teams in the ranking of NORCECA, with the absence of the leader, United States, which does not need to attend this contest as they have already secured their presence in the World Cup in Japan next September.
Dominicans appear second in the list, followed by Cubans, Puerto Ricans and Canadians, who will fight for the two World Cup tickets the tourney grants.
Another important point is that the Japanese event will grant berths to the Olympics of Rio de Janeiro 2016.
The remaining matches will be between Dominicans and Canadians, on Friday, Puerto Ricans and Dominicans (Saturday) and Canadians and Puerto Ricans (Sunday).
