HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 1 (acn) The New York Cosmos landed at Jose Marti International Airport at 9:40 pm on Sunday for its friendly soccer match against the Cuban national team, next Tuesday.
As it was announced, the delegation of the visiting team was headed by the King of soccer, Pele, along with the Spanish striker Raul Gonzalez Blanco and Spanish-Brazilian midfielder Marco Senna.
A real bustle by the people that filled the areas of Terminal 2 was heard when they had the opportunity to witness these three iconic figures, who greeted the audience but made no statements to the press.
The NY Cosmos, founded in 1970, was registered that same year in the North American Soccer League (NASL). But the fans did not come to the stadium and its directors decided to sign a group of excellent players, including O Rei Pele in 1975.
In addition to Raul and Senna, whose performances have currently allowed the team to remain undefeated at top of the tournament; this franchise also hired the services of the German star Franz Beckenbauer at the end of the 1970s.
