HAVANA, Cuba, May 27 (acn) Cuba's national baseball team will face the Baltimore Orioles of the Major League Baseball (MLB) this year, at a date yet to be defined.
The president of the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER), Antonio Becali, told the press that there will be an exhibition game with a team of the Orioles, which will take place on the island during 2015.
Becali said that in recent months other organizations of the top baseball circuit in the U.S. have expressed their interest in playing with the Cuban team.
The Baltimore Orioles made history 16 years ago as the first team of the MLB to play against a Cuban rival after 1959, by staging a two-game friendly series, held in both countries. The U.S. squad won 3-2 in the first game, held at Havana's Latin American Stadium on March 28, 1999, while on May 3 of that same year Cuba defeated the Baltimore Orioles 12-6, at the Oriole Park of Camden Yards, in the city of Baltimore
