HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 30 (acn) The best teams and players of the last National Series were honored in the Awards Gala of Cuban Baseball, held yesterday at the Sports City Coliseum, in this city.
Enlivened by popular performers and groups of Cuban musical panorama, the colorful evening had its culmination when recognizing the Ciego de Avila Tigers –monarchs of 54th edition of the domestic baseball classic, and Roger Machado, awarded as the best head coach of the season.
The squads of Isla de la Juventud and Matanzas, which finished second and third in that order, also received their prizes.
Legendary exponents of the Cuban national pastime as Luis Giraldo Casanova, Omar Linares, Pedro Medina, Lourdes Gourriel, Yosvany Aragon, Wilfredo Sanchez and Rodolfo Puente were responsible for rewarding the most outstanding players of the contest in the individual order.
The offensive All-Star team, plus individual leaders in each department and the players with merits to be included among the so-called Golden Gloves also received personalized plaques and trophies.
The Awards Gala of Cuban Baseball was attended by Antonio Becali, president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, among other authorities.
