Ciego de Avila Beats Granma, Makes it to the Final PlayoffHAVANA, Cuba, Apr 1 (acn) Ciego de Ávila became the first finalist of the Cuban baseball championship in its 54th edition when defeating 3-0 Granma to win that semifinal series with balance of 4-1.

Yander Guevara was awarded the win on the mound by allowing only three hits and struck out six in nine innings, while Juan Ramón Olivera took the loss when allowing three earned runs in four and two thirds innings, in a match held at José Ramón Cepero Stadium.

The Tigers opened the score in the first inning through a run driven in by first baseman Ariel Borrero, and added the two definitive runs in the fifth thanks to a two-RBIs double by Raul Gonzalez.

After losing the first game of the semifinal round against Granma with a score of 9-2, Ciego de Ávila was able to categorically respond, supported by effective pitching and timely hitting, to add four wins in line with scores of 16-5, 6-0, 9-4 and 3-0.

The Tigers guaranteed their presence in the Grand Final of Cuban baseball for the third time in the last five years: in 2011 they lost to Pinar del Río in the discussion of the title and a year later embraced the glory by beating Industriales.
