HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 31 (acn) The Ciego de Ávila Tigers will try to achieve today the last win they need to access to Cuban baseball title discussion after beating 9-4 Granma and taking a 3-1 lead in the semifinal series.
In a match that took place at José Ramón Cepero Stadium, Granma went ahead with four runs in the fifth inning off Ciego´s starter Vladimir Garcia, who allowed homers by Yordanis Alarcón, Adrian Moreno and Alfredo Despaigne, the latter with a runner on base.
The Tigers scored twice in the seventh inning thanks to a two-run homer by Osvaldo Vázquez, his fourth in the postseason.
But Granma's bullpen couldn't hold the nice performance of its starter, Lazaro Blanco, and allowed seven runs in the eighth inning, debacle that included doubles by Andy Zamora and Jose Garcia against three relievers, including the defeated Juan R. Olivera.
Dachel Duquesne was awarded the win by limiting Granma´s powerful offensive to just one hit in three innings, with a strikeout and two walks.
The right-hander Yander Guevara, winner in the second game of this semifinal round, could start today in search of the fourth and final victory for Ciego de Ávila, while Carlos Marti, Granma's head coach, must use all his arsenal to force the series to reach a sixth game .
