Western playoff in Cuban baseball tiedMATANZAS, Cuba, Mar 27 (acn) Isla de la Juventud evened to one win apiece the Cuban baseball championship semifinal against Matanzas by defeating them 4-2 as visitor at Victoria de Girón stadium in this city.

The Pirates materialized the win in the eleventh inning when DH Rigoberto Gomez had a single with the bases loaded off closer Felix Fuentes, driving in thus the two decisive runs.

The right-hander Danny Aguilera was the winner by starring impeccable two innings relief, while the stellar Héctor Manuel Mendoza took the save and loss went to Yasmany Insua.

Yoalkis Cruz, Isla de la Juventud´s starting pitcher, had a marvelous performance when allowing two runs in eight innings, as well as Matanzas´ Jonder Martinez, who was even better by allowing one unearned run in seven and two thirds innings but the Pirates managed to tie the match in the top of the ninth off Insua.

Both teams travel today to Isla de la Juventud to resume the semifinal series on Friday in the first of the three matches to be held at Cristóbal Labra Stadium.

The second match of the other semifinal series between Granma and Ciego de Avila will take place today at Martires de Barbados Park, in Bayamo city.
