Cuban U-18 Team Debuts in Pan American Volleyball CupHAVANA, Cuba, Mar 17 (acn) Cuba will try to achieve its first win in the 3rd U-18 Women's Pan American Volleyball Cup when facing today Puerto Rico in Group B of the tournament to be held until March 22nd in the Sports City Coliseum, in Havana.

According to the program approved on Monday, the Cubans shall debut against Puerto Rican, to then face the squads of Chile and Costa Rica, all fighting for the ticket the event grants to the world cup in Lima, Peru, from next August 7 to 16.
Poole A includes the already qualified teams of the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Argentina and Peru, which will compete with the sole purpose of advancing to the final.

Tomás Fernández, Cuban head coach, said in advance his starting lineup which includes the middle blockers Heidy Casanova and Liset Herrera, opposite hitters Diaris Perez and Aidachi Attilah -captain-, outside hitter Kitania Medina, setter Gretell Moreno and the libero Ana Claudia Fernández.

The other match of group B will be between Costa Rica and Chile, while Poole A has scheduled the games Argentina vs. Peru, and the Dominican Republic vs. Mexico.

The winning teams of each group will go directly to the semifinal round on Saturday 21, while those finishing second and third will face their opponents of the other group in the quarterfinals on Friday 20.

The medals discussion will be on Sunday 22nd.

The first edition of 2011 was won by Argentina, followed by Mexico and the Dominican Republic, respectively, and the Brazilians won the second in 2013, escorted by the Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, in that order.
