Cuba vs. Puerto Rico today at FIVB Volleyball Boys´ U17 World Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 26 (ACN) Cuban team will face today Puerto Rico in the third and last day of Group C of the preliminary phase of the 1st FIVB Volleyball Boys´ U17 World Championship, to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

After losing on Saturday 1-3 and Sunday 0-3 to Italy and Argentina, in that order, Cubans will look for success against the Puerto Ricans, who also accumulated two setbacks in a row with the Argentines, 0-3 (, and the Italians, 0-3, respectively.

According to the International Federation's website (www.fivb.com), the other match in bracket C will be between undefeated Italy and Argentina, so the winner will lead the key.

The round of 16 is scheduled for this Tuesday, and the third place finisher between Cuba and Puerto Rico will be the opponent of the second of the A bracket, while the fourth place finisher will face the first of the A bracket.

The group stage takes place in a round-robin system, the results of which will determine their starting positions for the single-elimination rounds in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, semifinals and final.

The A standings place Spain at the top with two wins, followed by Chinese Taipei (1-1), Bulgaria (1-1) and Mexico (0-2), while in B the leaders are Iran (2-0) and Egypt (2-0), escorted by Libya (0-2) and Tunisia (0-2).
Brazil (2-0) and Belgium (2-0) lead in D, ahead of China (1-1) and Uzbekistan (0-2).
