Cuba with a second team to the Pan American Men's Volleyball Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 12 (ACN) Cuba will participate July 14-21 with a second team at the 7th Men's Senior Volleyball Pan American Cup, to be held at the "Profesor Ricardo Gioriber Arias" Volleyball Palace in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

According to the website www.norceca.net, Cubans will be in Group B along with Colombia, Guatemala, Peru and the host team, while in Group A will be the defending champion Canada, Chile, bronze medalist in 2023, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Peru and the United States.

The disciples of coaches Mario Izquierdo and Angel Gonzalez will begin their action on the 15th against the Colombians, followed by matches against the Peruvians (16th), Guatemalans (17th) and Dominicans (18th).

Caribbean nation team is composed of assistants Bryan Camino, Victor Andreu, Yusniel Marti and Felix Rodriguez, middle blockers Thiago Suarez, Alexi Wilson and Jakdiel Contreras, opposites Carlos Charles and Jose Romero, passers Julio Gomez and Adrian Chirino, and libero Yamichel Gonzalez.

Pan American Cup is part of the qualifying process for the North, Central America and Caribbean Continental Championship (Norceca) 2025, the Pan American Cup in 2025 and the Pan American Games in 2027.

The organizers announced that the winner of each group will advance directly to the semifinals and the second and third place finishers will advance to the quarterfinals, while on the closing day the medalists of the tournament and the fifth through 10th places will be defined.

In the last 2023 edition, the winners were Canada, Brazil and Chile, who won gold, silver and bronze, in that order.
