HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 7 (ACN) Cuba’s athletics has secured eight more spots for the 2024 Olympic Games, so the number of its track-and-field figures in the summer event has now reached 18, which makes it the island’s largest team.
The final list was made official after World Athletics (WA) announced on Sunday all the athletes qualified for Paris 2024.
The new arrivals are Yunisleidy García (100m); Silinda Morales, Melany Matheus and Mario Alberto Díaz (discus throw), Alejandro Parada (long jump), Andy Hechavarría (triple jump); and Sahily Diago Mesa and Melissa Padrón Monterey (4x400m relay).
Cuba closed the qualification stage for the Olympics with 61 athletes in 16 sports.
