HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 18 (ACN) Cuban men's team will debut today against Nicaragua in the second day of the 1st North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca) U17 Pan American Volleyball Cup, to be held at the Multifunctional Auditorium in Colima, Mexico.
According to the website www.norceca.net, Cubans had no action on Monday, so they will start today against the Nicaraguans in the B key, and then on Wednesday against the Puerto Ricans, in the closing of the group phase.
In the technical meeting of the event, the technical director from the Caribbean nation Frank Almendariz Davalos said about the team "This is a group that has been together since September, they attended the qualifier for the U17 world championship here in Mexico and won one of the places".
"We want the players to enjoy the tournament, to put into practice everything we have worked with them and also to have a good result that will allow them to have a positive psychological environment for the World Cup, he added.
The other two matches of Tuesday will be in bracket A with the Guatemala-Canada and Mexico-Canada pairings.
According to the tournament schedule, the first of each group will advance directly to Friday's semifinals, the second and third places will meet on Thursday in the quarterfinals and on Saturday the medals will be discussed, and the remaining steps of the tournament will be defined.
The Cup is part of the qualification system for the 2025 Norceca Continental Championship and the 2026 World Championship, both in the category.
