Cuban archery and diving win Olympic quotas

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 18 (ACN) Archery and diving added quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, through Hugo Franco and Prisis Leydis Ruiz, who became the 44th and 45th Cubans with secure places in the delegation that will attend the Parisian multisport event.

Franco got his ticket at the Final Olympic Qualification Tournament of Archery 2024, held in the Turkish city of Antalya as the last chance to get individual and team tickets.

Cuban took the place since he advanced to the semifinal round of the recurve archery modality, with a 7-3 victory over Iran's Faez Mohammadizardkhaneh.

Franco, winner of three bronze medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023, becomes the eighth Cuban to compete in an Olympic Games, since the first ones with that privilege were Juan Carlos Stevens, Ismely Arias, Yaremis Perez and Edisbel Martinez, who participated in the Sydney 2000 edition.

The good news for Prisis came from the Wold Aquatics offices after the official awarding of places in the individual 3-meter springboard event.

Prisis, from the Cuban eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, was waiting for the officialization due to her good position in the world ranking, after finishing in 16th place in the world championship of aquatic sports organized in Doha, Qatar, in February. She will now enjoy her first Olympic experience and will mark the return of Cuban women to this event.
