June brings new competitions for Cuban athletics

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) Cuban athletics will have several competitions this month, the first of them on the 15th in Amiens, France, where middle-distance runner Rose Mary Almanza and long jumper Alejandro Parada will participate.

Parada, runner-up at the Pan Am Games in Santiago de Chile and gold medalist at the Central Caribbean Games in San Salvador, both events in 2023, will have to seize this opportunity to achieve the minimum mark required for the Olympics, whereas his teammate Almanza, multi-champion in Central American and Caribbean Games, won her ticket to Paris on May 26th in an international tournament in Forbach, France, where she finished first in the 800m with a time of 1:58.89 min.

Then, on the 19th, the triathlete Lazaro Martinez, indoor world champion in Belgrade 2022 and second in the outdoor competition in Budapest 2023, will be in the JBL Festival in Slovakia. He won in his debut in the Diamond League held in Rabat, Morocco on May 19 with an event record of 17.10 m, and on the 30th he finished third in Oslo, Norway, with a jump of 16.85 m.

June will close with the triple jumpers Leyanis Pérez and Cristian Nápoles competing in Guadalajara, Mexico, on June 23.

Perez, world indoor runner-up in Glasgow, Scotland, last March, is having a very good season with two wins in the Diamond League, first in Eugene, United States, on May 25, and then on May 25 in Stockholm, Sweden.
