Cuba wins silver and bronze medals in Pan-American weightlifting event

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (ACN) Cuban weightlifters were second and third at the 2024 Pan-American Championships, currently under way in Venezuela.

Olfides Sáez (89 kg) won a bronze medal in total with 366 kg and a silver medal in clean and jerk with 206 kg, whereas Yaniuska Mirabal (71 kg) won a silver medal in snatch with 107 kg before she had to quit the competition due to a muscle contracture.

These Championships in Venezuela mark the penultimate event that grants points for the world ranking with a view to the Paris 2024 to the top 10 weightlifters of each division.

ccording to the International Federation, the last Olympic qualifier will be held from March 31 to April 11 in Phuket, Thailand.
