Cuban women wrestlers without medals at Pan American Wrestling Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (ACN) Cuban freestyle wrestlers did not win any medals on the second day of the Pan American Wrestling Championship, to be held in Acapulco, Mexico, until the next 24th.

Among the women, Yusneylis Guzman (50 kg), Angela Alvarez (57 kg), Maria Santana (62 kg) and Brenda Sterling (68 kg), although none of them could reach the podium for Cuba.

Guzman, champion in the continental multisport event of Santiago de Chile 2023, lost by forfeit in her duel against Canadian Katie Ann Dutchak, in the quarterfinals.

Santana, winner of the silver medal in the Chilean capital, opened with an 11-0 victory by technical superiority against Puerto Rican Carina Giangeruso, but in her next match she lost 0-5 against Brazilian Lais Nunes
.
In the case of Alvarez, she won one bout and fell in the second, while Sterling debuted with a defeat, according to the official website of the United World Wrestling.

Today, Laura Herin (53 kg), silver medalist in the Santiago de Chile fight, will compete for the Caribbean island in search of the first podium for women in that event, which serves as preparation for the Olympic Qualifiers of America, to be held in the same city of Acapulco from February 28 to March 1.
That tournament will give tickets to the winners of the first two positions in each of the divisions.

However, on Wednesday at the opening of the Pan American Championship, the Caribbean nation won three medals, one in each color, through Daniel Gregorich (87 kg), Oscar Pino (130 kg) and Yosvanys Peña (77 kg), winners of gold, silver and bronze, respectively, all in Greco-Roman style.
