Havana, Feb 21 (ACN) For the second time Cuba will contest the Little Leagues Baseball World Series which is annually hosted in August by the US city of South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The championship has taken place since 1947, but Cubans under 12 years participated in the event for the first time in 2023, thanks to the signing three years before of a MOU between the International Little Baseball Leagues and the Cuban Baseball Federation.
The Cuban team, from the eastern province of Bayamo, which contested the event in 2023 lost to Japan, but made a good performance by defeating Australia.
The US hosts have conquered 39 medals in the history of the World Series, followed by Taiwan and Japan. Also high on the winners’ list is Mexico, along Venezuela and Curacao.
