HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 30 (ACN) Raul Trujillo, head coach of the Cuban Greco-Roman wrestling team, said they want to go with a full team of six wrestlers to the Olympic Games in Paris, to be held from July 26 to August 11.
So far, Cuba has secured three places in the Olympic Games in the French capital, which were achieved in the World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia, last September.
There, the island's wrestlers won two gold medals through Luis Orta (67 kg) and Gabriel Rosillo (97 kg), and a bronze medal for Oscar Pino (130 kg).
Trujillo recalled that the ticket won by Pino will be taken by the legend Mijain Lopez, four-time Olympic champion and five-time gold medalist in world events.
About the qualifying competition in Acapulco, Mexico, which will begin on February 28, the outstanding coach affirmed that the goal will be to get the three remaining places in the divisions of 60, 77 and 87 kilos, which will seek Kevin de Armas, Yosvany Peña and Daniel Gregorich.
Referring to what has been done so far this year, he said that his pupils made the first part of the preparation in Norway and then moved to Croatia, where they made a training base with 360 wrestlers from about twenty countries, including some world and Olympic medalists who are also preparing for important commitments.
Cuban wrestlers are improving every day in order to achieve sporting form and obtain the best results in the upcoming competitions, concluded the head of the Greco-Roman wrestling technical team.
