HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 29 (ACN) Cuban canoeists and kayakers committed to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (OG), will begin the critical route through Portugal, where they will fulfill a training base.
Alejandro Hamze, president and national commissioner of canoeing - canoe and kayak - told the Cuban News Agency today that they plan to travel to that country this Wednesday, where they will stay for three weeks.
Hamze ratified that the canoeists are Yarisleidis Cirilo, Jose Ramon Pelier, Yisnoly Lopez and Misleidys Avila, and the kayaker, Dailen Rodriguez.
He recalled that Cirilo already has guaranteed tickets for Paris in the single-seater (C-1) and the two-seater (C-2) at 200 and 500 meters, respectively, and that she will seek to arrive in optimal form to the OG focused on the C-1, a modality in which she is among the favorites to get a podium.
He reiterated that Yisnoly, who has already guaranteed her presence in Paris in the C-2 500 meters with Cirilo, but will try to be in Paris in the C-2 500 meters with Misleidys, pending the classification.
About the rest of the chosen ones, he added that Pelier will continue his preparation with the purpose of getting the Olympic ticket in the C-1 to 1,000 meters, as well as the kayaker Dailen, but in the single seater (K-1) to 500 meters.
Cuban federative added that once the stay in Portugal is over, they will carry out another training base in high altitude conditions in Paipa, Colombia, from February 26 to March 21.
He also explained that Pelier (C-1 to 1,000 meters), Yisnoly and Mailienys (C-2 to 500 meters) must compete in the Olympic qualifying competition, from April 21 to 26 in the United States.
After the OG, canoeing plans to complete its 2024 commitments with a training base from August 12 to 25, prior to the World Cups in Poland and Uzbekistan, in that order.
