HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 15 (ACN) Cuban youngster Daniel Hidalgo, from Havana, took the lead in the general classification after the first phase of the Cuban Grand Prix Chess Tour, held this weekend.
Medalist in Central American events in the school category in 2023, Hidalgo stood out this time at home with his first place in the recently opened circuit of rapid and Blitz games.
The youngster dominated the Blitz with 8.5 points out of a possible nine and finished second in the rapid duels with 4.5 points in the six rounds held at the Casa del Ajedrez located in the Vedado district of the capital.
His total of 13 units helped him to take the lead in a series that during the year should bring together the main figures of the Science Games on the Island.
Hidalgo was followed by Jerzy Jesus Perez and Roberto Alejandro Ramos, from the central province of Villa Clara and western Matanzas, respectively, with 10 and 9.5 points, in that order.
Among the women, Yerisbel Miranda stood out, sixth in the general ranking with eight points, thanks to the five points she scored in the Blitz and the three added in the second modality.
It is worth remembering that Yerisbel and Omar Almeida, members of the senior national pre-selections, were crowned in the initial version of the circuit, whose final was played before the start of the new call.
