Cubans to compete today in multiple Pan American finals

SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Oct 23 (ACN) With highlights for rowing, weightlifting and diving, Cuba will participate in at least six podium contests today in the 19th edition of the Pan American Games, in Santiago de Chile.

The delegation will take part in three rowing finals, the men's and women's four sculls (double sculls) and the men's eight coxed rowing in the Laguna Grande San Pedro de la Paz.

At the Aquatic Center of the National Stadium Park, Anisley Garcia and Arlenys Garcia will compete for the medals in synchronized diving from the 10-meter platform and Carlos Escalona and Frank Rosales will seek to advance to today's final in the three-meter springboard.

The boxing quarterfinals will feature multiple Olympic and world champions Arlen Lopez and Julio Cesar la Cruz.

Lopez (80 kg) will fight against Colombian Jhojan Caicedo and La Cruz (92 kg) against Chilean Andrews Salgado.

The brand-new runner-up Saidel Horta (57 kg), also for a place in the semifinals, will face Colombia's Yilmar Gonzalez and, at the end of the competition, Legnis Cala (57 kg) will make her debut in the women's round of 16 against Mexico's Jennifer Carrillo.

Weightlifters Ayamey Medina (81 kg) and Juan Zaldivar (102 kg) will try to reach the podium and the beach volleyball duo, formed by Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, will compete against Andre Loyola and George Souto from Brazil, a power in this sport.

Cuba will also have a confirmed presence in different events in shooting, swimming, women's indoor volleyball and modern pentathlon.
