India to organize chess match with Cuba
The news was confirmed by the president of the Cuban chess federation, Carlos Rivero, who said that the meeting will take place between November 15 and 21 and will also serve to establish the basis for future collaborations.
Carlos Daniel Albornoz will lead the Cuban team, along with Dylan Berdayes and Elier Miranda, while Lisandra Ordaz will be in the women's team.
Rivero acknowledged that the team was created in the interest of developing figures already established at the international level and with the prospect of continuing to grow.
The hosts will be represented by Sunilduth Lyna Narayanan and Geetha Narayanan Gopal, along with the 17-year-old prodigy Jubin Jimmy and A. G. Nimmy will defend the women's position.
India is ranked second in the world by the average Elo of its 10 best men, but it also has a great tradition of science game competitions, the most recent example being the Chennai Olympiad in 2022.
The former world champion Viswanathan Anand is an idol in that country and more recently they enjoyed the subtitle in the Baku 2023 Chess World Cup won by Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, another of the young prodigies they have.
