International baseball tryouts concluded in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 13 (ACN) A live batting practice marked the conclusion of the baseball tryout drills in Havana’s Latin American Stadium, where scouts from several clubs witnessed the skills of 41 Cuban players with a view to possible contracts.

Along with some experienced players, young Cuban talents performed 60-yard dash tests, batting and fielding practice, and pitching abilities.

“In the main, we came to check out your pitchers, as our team is looking for men with similar characteristics to the left-handed Livan Moinelo. However, we also paid close attention to other positions players so that we make the right decisions,” said Kenta Hagiwara, SoftBank Falcons scout for the Latin American area.

On his end, Enrique Tamaki, a Brazilian who is looking to contract Latin talent for the Japanese club Yomiuri Giants, remarked that he saw players with strong arms who displayed good throwing abilities and great running speed, as well as some good power hitters. “Nevertheless,” he stressed, “the important thing was to watch their game in order to reach a conclusion.”
