HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 12 (ACN) Yeniuska Mirabal will be the third athlete, and first woman, to compete for Cuba in the World Weightlifting Championship, as she competes today in the 71 kilogram (kg) bodyweight division in Saudi Arabia.
In Riyadh, Mirabal will participate in Group C, just like her teammates and without great podium chances.
For Cuba, the national record of Arley Calderon, who improved his record by five kilograms to 291 kg in the 61 kg category, where he remained in the Olympic qualification zone for Paris 2024, stands out so far.
The other Cuban who has already participated, Olfides Saez, finished in the 89 kg division in 11th place in the total with 355 kg, 19th in the snatch with 155 kg and eighth in the rebound with 200 kg, among 53 weightlifters.
After Mirabal, Juan Carlos Zaldivar (102 kg) will compete tomorrow and Ayamey Medina (81 kg) on Thursday, while Cuban Delmis Rodriguez is referee in this competition of 354 women from 94 countries and 365 men from 105 nations.
