HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 25 (ACN) Luis Ernesto Quesada's triumph and Carlos Daniel Albornoz's draw marked the performance of the Cubans, who remain in the top 10 of the masters tournament at the Biel Chess Festival in Switzerland, which has only three rounds left.
Luis Ernesto overcame the Austrian Lukas Dotzer and reached five units in seven rounds, a result also reached by his teammate Albornoz after making peace with German Marius Deuer, in an event in which 99 players are taking part.
Luis Ernesto's next match will be very complicated, as he will face China's Yan Lui, owner of the second place thanks to his 5.5 points, and who has only lost to the leader Xiangzhi Bu, another of the representatives of the Asian Giant.
As part of the Festival, a Blitz competition was held, with more than 100 participants, and the best of Cuba was Luis Ernesto's third place with 10.5 points in 13 games.
Armenian Haik Martirosyan won the competition with 11 points, ahead of Nderim Saraci (10.5), from Kosovo. Albornoz closed in 23rd position with eight scores.
