Cuba defeats Iran to remain at the VNL 2024

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 10 (ACN) The Cuban men's team remained for the 2024 Volleyball Nations League after defeating Iran 3-2 , in a match of the third and final week of the preliminary stage with venue for pool 5 in Anaheim, United States.
With this result, the disciples of Nicolas Vives were left out of the eight teams that will continue in action in the final stretch of the competition.

The Cubans won the first set, 25-22, lost the second, 26-28, won the third, 25-23, fell in the fourth, 28-30 and finished off the fifth, 15-10, partials that show how hard-fought the game was, in which Vives' pupils gave up 43 points for their own errors to 25 for the Iranians.

Cuban victory was assured by the greater effectiveness in the attack, 76 to 57 points, and service (7-5), while Iran was better in blocking (10-9), according to the official statistics of the challenge reflected in the site of the International Federation www.fivb.com.

Again, the main individual players in the Cuban victory were Jesus Herrera, with 27 points, 24 in attack, one in blocking and two in service, and Miguel Angel Lopez (27/22-2-3), top scorers.

Also outstanding for the Caribbean island were Marlon Yant (14/13-0-1) and Javier Concepcion (11/7-4-0), while for Iran Saadar Amirhossein (17/12-3-0), Amirhossein Esfandiar (16/12-1-3), Sayed Mohammad Hosavi (14/11-3-0) and Shahrooz Homayonfar (10/10-0-0) were the top scorers.

Finally, the Cubans finished in thirteenth place with 8 points, three wins and nine losses.
