Cuba wins four medals in individual judo in San Salvador 2023

 HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 27 (ACN) Cuba registered today a golden-silver day in the closing of the individual tournament of the judo tournament of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, with four gold medals and one silver one, at the University Gymnasium of the Salvadoran capital.

The Cubans had an almost perfect date of the five finals, with highlights for the champions Idalis Ortiz, in over 78 kilograms (kg), Andy Granda (+100 kg), Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg) and Ivan Silva (90 kg), and the runner-up Liester Cardona (100 kg).

The multiple Olympic and world supercomplete medalist and one of the standard bearers of the Cuban delegation, imposed her superiority on the tatami and gave a quick Ippon for immobilization to the Colombian Brigitte Carabali, who previously received a warning -Shido- and two Wazari.

Antomarchi, who defeated the Dominican Iaraima Silvestre by Ippon shortly after the beginning of the fight, as well as the also favorite Granda, in the fight against the Mexican Sergio del Sol.

Ivan Silva won his fourth crown against an opponent he had beaten four times, the Dominican Roberto Florentino, in a fight that was decided by Wazari.

With these results, the disciples of Julio Alderete and Yordanis Arencibia, head coaches of the men's and women's teams, in that order, totaled eight gold, three silver and two bronze medals, as well as a fifth place.

Cuba (8-3-2) dominated the individual competition, followed by Venezuela (2-2-5), Colombia (2-1-5), Mexico (1-3-5) and Puerto Rico (1-1-2), all five countries with at least one gold medal.
