Central American and Caribbean Games open today in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR, Jun 23 (ACN) When the torch of the Jorge " Magico" Gonzalez National Stadium is lit tonight, the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games will be officially opened in this city, although since Wednesday began the actions in different disciplines.

The flame will arrive in the installation today after traveling a thousand kilometers through the 14 departments, since its arrival in El Salvador on June 6 from Mexico, where the lighting of the New Fire took place at the Staggered Basement of the Moon in the Archaeological Zone of Teotihuacan.

Salvadoran media reported that in view of the inauguration, 25,000 tickets will be provided free of charge, the closing of streets in the vicinity of the stadium to facilitate access and the possibility of free parking some 300 meters away from the sports venue.
In addition, the Legislative Assembly approved the end of work at 2:00 p.m. for public and municipal administration workers, the Public Ministry, the Supreme Court of Justice, the Legislative Assembly and autonomous official institutions of the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador, in order to avoid difficulties in the simultaneous transportation of athletes and Salvadoran families who will attend.

The National Stadium is one of the facilities under repair in this city, actions that included the total change of the natural grating and its drainage system, the installation of digital screen, audiovisual system, the construction of ticket offices and lighting towers with LED system and lighting in the perimeter ring of the stadium.

The opening of the event is the final point of a commitment of the government of El Salvador, through the National Sports Institute, to host the sporting event, after the withdrawal of Panama City in July 2020 and, subsequently, the decline of the Puerto Rican Mayagüez in April 2021, when it was competing with San Salvador to take the responsibility of holding the event.

After receiving the endorsement of Centro Caribe Sports, the organization in charge of the Central American and Caribbean Games, the country began its long race to organize and develop this event, with the sports infrastructure as a starting pointence, this June 23 is also a day to highlight the feat accomplished by the Salvadoran people and government, with the objective of saving the oldest regional multidisciplinary competition in the world.
