Indonesia leads weightlifting Grand Prix in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 12 (ACN) With the three gold medals of Eko Yuli Irawan, Indonesia reached five and took the lead in the medal standings of the Grand Prix of Weightlifting in Havana, an Olympic qualifier.

In the 67 kilogram (kg) bodyweight division, Irawan was unbeatable, dominating 145 kg in the snatch and 176 kg in the deadlift, for a total of 321 kg.

Last December's world champion in Bogota, Colombia's Francisco Mosquera, had to settle for the three silver medals this afternoon, registering 136, 175 and 311 kg.

Sergio Massidda, from Italy, won the bronze medals, thanks to 135, 165 and 300 kg, according to results officialized by the International Weightlifting Federation.

During the previous day at Pabexpo, Indonesia's Ricko Saputra won two golds in the 61 kg category, where Cuba's Arley Calderón won two bronzes and placed himself in the Olympic qualification zone, in ninth place in the ranking for Paris 2024.

The other countries with champions in Havana to date are the United States, Colombia and Cuba with three each, as well as the Dominican Republic with two and Peru with one.
