Cuban volleyball seeks third win in U21 Pan Am Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 7 (ACN) The Cuban men's team will be opposite defending champion USA today in the U21 Volleyball NORCECA Pan Am Cup, held in this city.

Cuba and USA, which are undefeated in Pool A after they both beat Guatemala and Nicaragua in straight sets, will play an important game inasmuch as the winner will go directly to the semifinals and the loser to the quarterfinals.

Before the start of the Cup, Cuban head coach Jesús Cruz said that his roster features four U19 players who were included so that they gain experience at this level with a view to next year’s qualifiers for the U21 World Championships. (…) We know that USA and Canada are Cuba’s main rivals, but we will strive to be on the podium and thus lay the ghost of last year's fourth place.”

On his end, US coach Andy Read said that he brought a very strong team in order to defend the crown that his country won in 2022.
