HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 2 (ACN) The 5th edition of the Youth Parapan American Games, to be held in Bogota, Colombia, began its activities with the medical-functional classifications in several sports.
On its website, the sports publication Jit pointed out that it is a process aimed at those para-sportsmen who do not have this international certificate and others who need to be reviewed.
According to the program, three Cubans, the athlete Pedro J. Urgelles Rutan and the tennis players Jorge Massaguer and Mario Gonzalez, accompanied by the chief medical specialist of the delegation, Emeritus Perez, had to pass in front of the panel on Thursday.
Besides, the representatives of parathletics and table paratriathlon, one of the first to take part for Cuba in this multidisciplinary event, had training schedules.
The organizers confirmed on Thursday the presence of delegations from 20 countries, some 739 para-athletes and 58 field assistants, that is, guides in modalities such as athletics, soccer for the blind and boccia.
Also arriving in the Colombian capital were 438 officials, including managers, administrative staff, coaches, doctors and physiotherapists, as well as several sports ministers (six), 17 heads of national Paralympic committees and some 1,000 volunteers, Jit said.
Regarding press coverage, the organization of the Games received 348 media requests, of which 45 are international.
