Cuba debuts today vs. Puerto Rico at 2023 NORCECA U21 Pan American Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, May 23 (ACN) The Cuban women's national team will debut today against Puerto Rico in the first day of the North, Central America and Caribbean (NORCECA) U-21 Pan American Volleyball Cup, to be held until May 28 in Nogales 2023, Mexico.

According to the website www.norceca.net, the Cubans will face the Mexicans this Tuesday in section A, which also includes the teams of Belize and the host, with whom they will play on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, the last in the closing of the group phase.
Friday will be the quarterfinal round, Saturday the semifinal and the dispute for the fifth to eighth places, and on Sunday the medals will be discussed.

The presence of the Cuban women is important, as it guarantees their attendance to the 2024 edition, which will be a qualifier for the 2025 World Cup.

The team is led by corner attackers Claudia Tarin and Thainalien Castillo, middle blockers Yensy Kindelan and Lisania Grafort, and opposite captain Yalain Regla de la Peña, a quintet that came to the Mexican tournament with international experience.

It is completed with Brenda Mia Ferrer and Lisbeisy Hernandez (passers); Salet Castillo and Whitney James (attackers-receivers), Edisleidys Reyes (center) and Yamilena Ruiz (libero), members of the silver medal winning team in the 5th Alba Games of Venezuela 2023.
