HAVANA, Cuba, May 12 (ACN) Cuba's performance in the first semifinal round of the 22nd World Boxing Championship held at the Humo Arena in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, closed with a balance of three wins and two defeats.
Cuban featherweight debutant Saidel Horta secured his silver medal without having to fight, due to the injury of his rival Hussam Uddin Mohamed (IND).
Meanwhile, lightweight Erislandy Alvarez hit Jordan's Mohammad Abu-Jajeh with everything he had, especially his left crosses, and defeated him unanimously to face world champion and Olympic runner-up Sofiane Oumiha (FRA) on Sunday for the gold medal.
And the third victory of today so far was to the exponent champion Yoenlis Hernandez (75 kg), who gave a boxing lesson to the French Moreno Fenderoy, supported by the good use of his left jab combined with straight punches on the inside. He won 5-0.
